India didn’t get independence overnight. It was a struggle of almost 200 years.
India was a slave of the British for about 200 years, although the country was divided into various princely states during that period.
The entire country became a battlefield and everyone contributed in every possible way to fight against the British.
But some places played a crucial role in getting independence for India.
These independence movements also made the country aware of many true patriots such as Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Mangal Pandey, Subhash Chandra Bose.
Although the freedom struggle was fought all over India. But some places have a special place in the freedom movement.
I hereby present some of the important places relating to our freedom struggle.
Bombay
Bombay is now called Mumbai and it is the capital city of Maharashtra.
The foundation of the Indian national congress in 1885 was one of the most important political events that took place in Bombay.
The quit India movement was launched from Bombay in 1942 by Mahatma Gandhi.
The city played an important role in the Indian independence movement.
Barrackpore
Barrackpore is in west Bengal. The famous rebellion of 1857 started from Barrackpore.
Mangal Pandey declared war against his commanders.
In the Barrackpore Indian sepoys revolted against British officers. this sparked off the first war of independence.
the revolt of the sepoys spread from Barrackpore to Meerut and then to Delhi. many civil populations joined hands with the sepoys.
Jhansi
the spark of the sepoy mutiny reached Jhansi. the city of Jhansi, also known as the city of Rani Lakshmi Bai. Jhansi is located in Uttar Pradesh.
Britishers annexed the princely state of Jhansi under the policy of “Doctrine of Lapse” thereby refusing to adopt the son of Rani as heir to the throne.
When war broke out, Jhansi became the center of the rebellion in central India.
Lakshmi Bai is one of the most famous and courageous females. She fought the Britishers with a kid on her back.

Jillian Wala Bagh
Jallianwala Bagh is located in Punjab. It was one of the crucial centers of the freedom struggle.
Jallianwala bagh massacre took place on 13th April 1919.
Jallianwala Bagh, a place that was rocked by the shrieks of hundreds of innocent people trying to cape the indiscriminate firing by the British soldiers.
British army commander Reginald dyer ordered his troops to open fire on the crowd who assembled at Jallianwala Bagh.
Approximately 1650 rounds were fired on innocent crowds leading to 379 deaths and 1200 wounded.
This was one of the cruelest acts of human slaughter in the history of the Indian freedom struggle.
Jallianwala Bagh incident is regarded as a turning point in the freedom movement of India.
Chauri- Chaura
Chauri Chaura is present in Uttar Pradesh (Gorakhpur). it is famous for the Chauri-Chaura incident.
in the Chauri Chaura incident, the police first killed several peaceful demonstrators, and later an angry mob set an entire police station on fire thereby killing 22 policemen.
After the Chauri Chaura incident, Gandhiji called off the non-cooperation movement because he thought that the movement had lost its non-violent nature.
Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad was the nerve center of the Indian freedom moment.
Mahatma Gandhi the father of the nation made it his home in 1915.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands
The Andaman and Nicobar islands of India are where the cellular jail or Kala Paani is situated.
It is the place where the British imprisoned the freedom fighters who were fighting for India’s independence.
Bangalore
Bangalore, the city known for its gardens and in contemporary times its parks has also played its part in the history of India’s freedom struggle.
Champaran
Champaran in Bihar is famous for being the site of the first satyagraha in India.
These are only some of the places where the Bravehearts of India fought for the freedom of the country.
