Essay On One Historical Event Which Changed World/Local Scenario

The beginning of World War I is one of the most significant historical events. After six decades of peace and prosperity, on July 28th, 1914 Germany declared war on France and Great Britain.
The war began slowly as each side planned their campaigns in Central and Eastern Europe. It was the bloody first real global war, causing millions of casualties on both sides.
Germany entered World War I on the side of the Central Powers, also known as the Triple Entente, consisting of Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, and the Ottoman Empire.
For their campaign, Germany focused on establishing control of the Duchy of Poland and Lithuania, the Balkan states, and some of the Russian Empire.
Britain and France joined Germany, opposing the Triple Entente and attacking the Duchy of Poland and the Ottoman Empire in a British-French-Polish campaign, also known as the Franco-Polish War.
Germany’s campaign to the Russian Empire began with an attack on Poland and became the campaign for the occupation of Russia, known as the East Prussian Campaign.
This campaign encompassed the Russian Empire, Polish regions of Congress Poland, and areas of the former Russian Empire under Austrian and Hungarian control.
Germany advanced on both fronts with victories against the French and British. However, these victories came at a very high cost, as the war soon developed into a stalemate.
The British forces were overstretched, as their army invaded neutral Belgium, marking the start of the Ypres Salient.
The war shifted to Britain, as the German Army launched its Hundred Days Offensive, beginning on August 25th, 1914, and advancing through Belgium, Holland, and France in a series of successful battles.

This enabled Germany to encircle Great Britain. With the attack came Operation Michael, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, and the start of the assassination of the Triple Entente. This event would change the course of history.
While Germany was intent on breaking through the Anglo-French lines, German troops were distracted by the assassination.
Their ability to counter this attack is controversial, but the Germans were soon overwhelmed by the Allied forces and the war came to an end on November 11th, 1918.
The war is considered to have resulted in the deaths of over 40 million people, mainly because of the German Imperial forces’ invasion of Russia and the Allied intervention in Belgium and Russia.
The majority of World War I occurred after unprecedented growth in weapons production and defense spending, resulting in the need for a military revolution.
From that point, armed forces became so large that the key weapon of the day, aircraft, began to play only a marginal role in the war.
With the more powerful armies, a number of developments including the technology of tanks, shells, aircraft, and submarines were developed.
The Great War sparked numerous innovations and many countries increased their defense spending. Over 300,000 new planes were made between 1916 and 1918, including the popular A-20 Havoc and S-24 Marauder.
Additionally, shell sizes increased from the pound to the metric ton, and a new system of classification was created for shells.
The development of machinery in the form of armored vehicles, gun turrets, and machine guns also increased.
The technological advancement of Germany in the development of shells, machine guns, tanks, and aircraft significantly contributed to the victory over Russia.
Through the mobilization of society for war, the next generation of scholars was born. The older generation of historians included men like the famous “Little Man” H.G. Wells.
Many of the modern era’s greatest scholars today were born after the war ended. Robert Graves, who wrote the famous novel “I, Claudius”, was born in 1920, while the also famous war historian Bernard Montgomery was born in 1922.
The outcome of the First World War proved that war was not a guarantee of victory.
The Great War also proved that technology and weapons were extremely important in the defense of nations, and not sufficient alone to ensure victory.
After a decade of war and warfare, the next era of warfare became a nuclear age.
As World War II broke out between the Soviet Union and the western Allies, the Iron Curtain was formed, preventing the reunification of Germany.
When World War II ended, many modern nations started to build nuclear weapons, resulting in what is known as the Cold War.
That’s why I refer to this incident of World War First as the One Historical Event Which Changed the World/Local Scenario.
