Val Demings Defeats Rubio in the Florida Primary Election.

In the race for the Senate in November, U.S. Rep. Val Demings of Florida will face incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

The former Orlando police chief easily won over three opponents to win the Democratic primary on Tuesday.

Demings had 84 percent of the vote as of 9:47 p.m. in the primary.

In front of a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, Demings was optimistic as she reminisced on her unexpected life story.

Together, we can achieve anything, she said, adding, "I honestly do think

this daughter of a maid and janitor who is not supposed to be standing here tonight."

She wants to represent Florida in the Senate as the first Black female senator.

Rubio wants to continue representing Florida in the Senate for a third term. In the Republican primary, he faced no rivals.
