Two men found guilty in plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

Two men were found guilty on Tuesday of planning to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2020.

The FBI foiled the plot, which some anti-government extremists have likened to a desire for a civil war in the country.

The outcome gave the U.S. Justice Department a significant triumph.

Just four months prior, a different jury returned a shocking verdict that prompted a second trial

because they were unable to agree on whether to convict Adam Fox or Barry Croft Jr.

When they were detained almost two years ago, the election between Joe Biden and

then-President Donald Trump was in its tense final stretch, and there were armed protests against COVID-19 restrictions, particularly in Michigan.

Fox and Croft were found guilty on Tuesday on two counts of conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction and to engage in kidnapping.
