Everyone who knew her and listened to her music was attracted to her by virtue of her magnetic personality and powerful voice.

In Newark, New Jersey, on August 9, 1963, Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to Cissy Houston and John Russell Houston Jr.

Whitney was raised in the music industry; her father was an entertainment executive and her mother was a gospel singer.

At the age of 14, Whitney joined the Michael Zager Band as a backup singer on the song "Life's a Party" to start her career in the entertainment industry.

She provided background vocals for Chaka Khan on the song "I'm Every Woman" a year later.
