Harry Styles visits Toronto for the premiere of "My Policeman"

Harry Styles debuted the tragic gay romance "My Policeman" less than a week

after the highly anticipated premiere of "Don't Worry Darling" in Venice, and did so with just as much fanfare but a little less drama.

Styles' performance in "My Policeman," in which he worked as stars with

Emma Corrin and David Dobson, is possibly his most dramatic till date.

He plays a secretly gay police officer in Brighton, England, in the 1950s who marries

a local teacher despite falling in love with a museum curator (Dobson) (Corrin).

It's a classy period drama, inspired by the life of “Howards End” author E.M. Forster
