At the age of 64, Uma Pemmaraju, a founder of the Fox News Channel, passed away.

Pemmaraju was at the anchor desk when the cable news channel first started airing in October 1996.

At the time, she was one of just a few of Indian-American news anchors to achieve success on a national scale.

"Uma Pemmaraju, a founding anchor of Fox News Channel, passed away today. She broadcast on the day we debuted.

Her cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

Uma was a sweet, lovely girl with a great deal of writing talent.

She quit the network, although she later came back in 2003 to take over as a channel fill-in anchor presenter.

In addition to hosting Fox News Live and The Fox Report on the cable network, Pemmaraju also did interviews with notable figures including the Dalai Lama on those programmes.
