Ashley Judd is speaking out about her family's experience following the suicide of her mother Naomi Judd.

The actress and advocate Ashley Judd claims that the day of her mother's death was "the most shattering"

day of her life in an editorial for the New York Times titled "Ashley Judd: The Right to Keep Private Pain Private."

"That day, my dear mother Naomi Judd committed herself because

she thought her mental illness would only worsen and never get better. 

Judd writes, "The trauma of finding and holding her labouring body haunts my nights.
